The Bandit's story about how it came to be is industry lore. Its innovative development is the essence of why Peavey has been a market leader for over 5 decades. Trust the Peavey Bandit 112 to tell your story.
Legendary Solid-State Amp
At the 1995 NAMM show thousands of players, media, and dealers crammed into a small demo room inside the Peavey exhibit. Peavey engineers conducted a blind A/B comparison between their new invention (a Bandit solid-state guitar amp) and a real competitor’s tube amp. After listening closely, and critiquing the sounds from each, no one could tell the difference between the two. Some "golden ears" that visited the booth that fateful day thought the TransTube® Bandit solid-state amp was the real tube amp.
Peavey Innovation
In crafting the patented TransTube Circuitry, our engineers meticulously examined every facet of tube amp functionality. They discovered that replicating tube tone in a solid-state amp goes beyond just gain structure; it involves the entire component chain and their interactions. It’s about the damping factor and the resulting speaker response, power amp compression, and how the amp distorts under heavy drive. It encompasses harmonic structure, non-linear gain stages, and even the cabinet’s size, bracing, wood, and thickness. But most importantly, it’s not as simple as copying and pasting from a tube amp circuit diagram and substituting a few components; it’s about what makes it truly unique – the tones we all love.
Other manufacturers' half-hearted attempts at tube emulation failed because they focused on the wrong things. Peavey concentrated on emulating the tonal characteristics we all recognize and love about tubes and 86'd the rest. It's a seemingly simple concept, yet it took three U.S. Patents to map the entire process for the history books.
Rock-Solid Versatility
The 2-channel Bandit 112 is ideal for home, studio, practice space, and stage. Packed with TransTube emulation circuitry, this rock-solid, versatile and portable amp excels in every setting. Its clean channel alone serves as an incredibly adaptable pedal platform.
Craft your unique sound with a 3-band passive EQ on each channel, master reverb control, and footswitchable boost. Choose between Vintage or Classic warm tones on the Clean channel. The Lead channel allows for Classic and Modern high-gain options.
